Fall at Janelia

We took these pictures over the weekend. Stevie needed a family photo for a class project. The fall colors are very nice here.

Stevie was eating a pear and announced that he had made 2 eyes and a mouth on the pear.

Stevie's language skills are growing everyday. It is nice because I can explain things to him. "Stevie, you can't have any more cookies because you have to save some for tomorrow." "You have to sleep under the covers so you don't get sick." I am surprised how well explaining things to him works.

Stevie's school is canceled for the week. Stevie has noticed. He keeps asking if he can go to school. They moved his preschool to a new building. It should be nice. Janelia has a program where we could send Stevie too. However, Stevie likes the preschool he is at now. He seems to like his teachers and he knows most of the kids names. He is very happy when he goes. He has gone from crying when I leave, to a quick "Bye mom!" as he runs in to see the new toys for the day. I am glad he likes his preschool, even if it is a little sad to see him growing up.

Fall

Virginia has this funny thing, it's called seasons! It's fall here. Stevie likes to collect and play in the leaves. These are a few pictures and a video that were taken outside of his preschool. He didn't have preschool today but he had an art class at the community center.

Fall is cold. Notice how poor Stevie's cheeks gets redder as the pictures progress. Also, you can click on the photos to make them larger.

Pumpkin Crunch Dessert

Pumpkin Crunch Dessert

1 large 29oz. can of 100% pumpkin (no pie filling)
1 12oz can evaporated milk
3 eggs
1/4 t of cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1 yellow cake mix (without pudding)
2 sticks melted butter
1 cup walnuts (crushed)
cool whip to taste


bake in 9x12 pan

mix pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon
pour in pan

top with dry cake mix, walnuts, pour melted butter on top

bake for 1 hour +
Make sure the cake mix is cooked in the middle

serve with cool whip

Here is something to do with all the leftover pumpkin. This is a recipe I got from Adrian at my old work in Anaheim, CA. I love this dessert. It is a bit sweet. I whipped up a pan just after Halloween.

Trick or Treat

Stevie was a lion this year. I made the costume again. I thought it would be easier than last year's monkey. I was in for a surprise. Thick fake fur is not easy. I finished it not more than an hour before we headed off for trick or treating. Stevie wouldn't put on the lion hat until he saw the other kids dressed up.

We gave Stevie and the neighbor kids glow sticks. They had to stop and play for awhile with the glow sticks before the trick or treating could get underway. Daniel and Reese, the neighborhood kids, came with us to cover half the neighborhood. We came home to get the red wagon and finished the rest by ourselves. Stevie had a lot of fun. He is adorable and loved the attention.

Pumpkin Carving

Wayne carved 2 pumpkins this year. Stevie wasn't too fond of the slimy pumpkins.
